December Snow Canyon Project

Project:  Snow Canyon State Park Illegal Trail Removal

Date:  Saturday, December 11, 2021

Time: 9:00am to 11:00am

Meeting Location:  100 E. in Ivins (the very north end where it terminates at the park boundary).  Please note - parking is limited.

Description:  Multiple illegal trails have cropped up in the vicinity of the Toe Trail (in the southwest corner of the park).  These trails not only confuse visitors but damage sensitive tortoise habitat.  This project will primarily involve reinforcing signage, and picking up and moving rocks to discourage use/eliminate trails.  Work will involve digging holes for signs; bending at the waist; picking up and moving rocks (up to 20 pounds in weight); and sweeping out tracks/footprints.   Participants should wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots; bring sturdy work gloves; and dress appropriately  Hats, sunscreen, and drinking water are also recommended.  Bring your favorite tool (shovels, pick ax, metal bars, metal rakes, etc).  

After we finish we will adjourn to the IceBox & Round About Grill in Ivins at 27 N 200 E, Ivins, UT 84738.  

 

NOTE:  This will be a continuing service project.  It will occur on the second Saturday of every month.

The County Fair and The District Conference

Lil Barron will be with us to remind us how much fun it is to volunteer at the Washington County Fair.  This year's dates are April 20 to April 23rd.  AND, we will have a visit from the new District 5420 Chief of Staff, Vicky Davison.  Vicky is making a trip to our area to give us more detail on the speakers, events, etc. of the District Conference being held May 13th and 14.

Sunset School "Field Day"

Sunset School's Annual "Field Day" needs volunteers to help with their activities. Spend the day OR come for a shift, we need 5 volunteers at all times. The shifts are 8:30-10:00 for the 4th and 5th grades. 10:10 - 11:40 for the 2nd and 3rd grades and 12:45 - 2:15 for the kindergarden and 1st grade. At 2:15 the fire truck is coming. There will be students from Dixie State helping as well. Email Sandi Schwartz at sandischwartzdg1819@gmail.com for any questions OR if you have some time to donate for this event.
