Hi All,   For Polio Day we have a service project in Snow Canyon. Here are the details. Hope to see you there. In line with the governor's guide lines masks are encouraged and we will attempt to social distance as much as possible.
Time:  8:30 - 10:45am.
Meeting Location:  Chuckwalla Parking lot (located off of SR-18; 1/2 mile north of the intersection with Snow Canyon Parkway; the lot is on the west side of the road)
Projects:  There are two projects we will be focusing on (we will likely divide into two groups):
Project one involves pulling and bagging puncturevine.  The project site is located adjacent to the junction of the Chuckwalla and Halfway Wash trail and involves a one-way hike of approximately 0.75 miles (1.5-miles roundtrip). Bags will be provided.  Work will involve bending at the waist to pull plants; picking up seeds that have fallen off; and loadingi/hauling out bags of weeds that have been pulled.  Depending upon group size, we may also remove tumbleweeds (shovels will be provided).
Project two involves moving rocks and installing signs to close off illegal trails adjacent to the Beck Hill trail.  Access to the site involves a hike of approximately 1.5-miles one-way (3.0 miles roundtrip).  Work will involve bending at the waist and knees; hauling and moving rock; and digging to install signs.  Shovels will be provided.
For both projects participants should bring thick/sturdy work gloves and at least one-liter of water per person.  As well, long pants, sturdy hiking boots, and hats/sunscreen are recommended.
